Isn't the month of December great? Yes, yes, it can get a little hairy and stressful, but I just love this time of year. I love the music, the sights, smells, and tastes, the traditions, the gift giving, and the focus on our Savior. It's pretty great, isn't it?
We've been busy with violin performances, wrestling practices and tournaments, a play that Abram and Seth participated in (more on that later), school projects, oh and being sick. That part is not so fun. Amongst all this we try to sneak in some of our simple family traditions.
Along those lines, Sam had a luncheon with some coworkers this week. During one of those awkward quiet moments when no one was saying anything, he invited the group to share some of the Christmas traditions they have. He was a little shocked that there were very few who had any at all. Now our traditions aren't anything spectacular. Some of them include driving around one night drinking hot chocolate and looking at lights, everyone sleeping together by the tree on Christmas Eve Eve, watching certain Christmas movies, eating a box of chocolate while we decorate the tree, listening to Snoopy's Christmas (Sam grew up with) and The Cabbage Patch Kids Christmas (I grew up with) and now Phineas and Ferb Christmas (the boys grew up with), making simple, yummy treats, cutting out snowflakes to hang from our basement ceiling, and making a bigger effort to serve others. What would Christmas be without these traditions? It's these little things that make the season so bright. If you didn't have traditions, I suppose Christmas really would only be about the presents. It's hard to imagine. It's sad, really.
Some pictures of our Christmas adventures thus far.
